Oscar was born in England in 1884 and came to Australia in 1912. In 1914 he opened a small drapery store grew to become the largest department store in Penrith.

Besides Rotary, he also founded the First Parents and Citizens Association, The Chamber of Commerce and at least two sporting clubs. He also served Penrith as an Alderman. He remained a member of Rotary until his death in 1975 aged 90.

The Annual fees were two guineas, payable one guinea per half year.

 

The club originally met at Marion Elston’s Dining Room in her Cake Shop and Cafe at 463 High Street. The price for dinner was two shillings and sixpence.

 

There were 26 charter members

Charter Night was held at the Dungowan Theatre with the Presidents of Sydney, Hurstville, Parramatta, Burwood, Katoomba, Canberra, North Sydney and Manly  attending
